Eyelid Issue with Stye

Hey there,

About three days ago, I woke up to the corner of my eyelid, hurting every time I blinked. When, I finally got out of bed to check, I saw in the mirror that the corner part of my eyelid had become swollen pretty large and was reddish/purpleish. At first, I thought it was a bug bite and so I rubbed a little ice on it gently just to help with the swelling and layed back down. I woke up to it hurting just as badly, if not worse and still extremely swollen. After further investigation and seeing no real spot that looked like a bug bite, I realized that maybe it was the beginning of a stye. I've never had a full blown stye before, since the very few times one has even dared to crop up, I've fought it off with a warm washcloth for about an hour and it's always gone away completely. But, this area is an akward one. It's the actual eyelid, but more towards the corner and harder to reach.

I did what I always do, though and put hot compresses on it. I used a washcloth and not gauze, though. I realize, gauze might’ve been better. D: Either way, it’s been three days an the swelling is only beginning to go down now. I can still feel the bump a bit, but the eye no longer hurts or feels like something’s in it. So, I think the stye is slowly going away. But, now, the area where it was/still kind of is, is very chapped and cracked. Kind of like how your lower lip looks in the winter if not hydrated properly. I think this is due to the excess of water on it for three days and the fact that our water is way too chlorinated. I should’ve heated bottled water prehaps.

I’m not sure if the stye is still there. When I touch the area, if I try hard, I can still feel a bit of a lump. But, I’m nervous to put more warm compresses on it, for fear that it will just dry out the corner of my lid more and make it even more cracked and dry. I can feel how dry it is everytime I blink, it feels weird and looks weird, too. And stings, in a chapped way.

Any advice on what I should do, if this is common after having an (almost) stye or after using warm compresses and since it’s only on the corner where the stye was/is, I know it’s not another condition. I’m positive it’s due to the amount of warm water. Kind of like getting pruney in a bath, but it’s staying that way. D:

Any help at all would be incredibly appreciated. I apologize for the lengthy post. x3

You are welcome. That’s what everyone is here for… to ask and give advice :) The peice of crust that you were reffering to in your last post is probably discharge that has dried up so just leave some gauze or cotton with warm water on the eye to soften it till you see your doctor. Its a good thing you set an appointment . Hope all goes well!

Thanks so much, you guys! I actually made an appointment to see my doctor today. I think that for the most part, the bump is almost completely gone. It’s very hard to feel it. But, now there is still like a feeling of dryness in that corner on the lid. It’s weird, because it looks kind of like the cracks on a chapped lip, but isn’t nearly as physically rough feeling anymore. So, I’m not sure what that means. Now whenever I open my lid it feels ike there’s a piece of crust preventing it from opening fully and it’s been causing my eye to feel strained. I hope that it will just be something easily fixable. Thank you so much! I’ll let you guys know what my doc says when I get home. Thanks again.^^

I agree with skeedo in doing what you are doing but I would stay away from the ointments or slaves until you can be completely sure that the irritation has gone away and there is no more bump. Putting an ointment on it could make the irritated pore even more clogged and further your current problems. So I’d wait till it’s gone and all you are left with is the dry skin and THEN use an ointment. Also as stated above, if it does not clear up soon, see a doctor!

Its okay you had a lengthy post although I must say its sort of hard to tell you exactly what was wrong with your eye. Its could apart from being a stye also be just an allergy. I suggest you keep doing what you are doing but avoid touching your eye with bare fingers to “feel” it. Try an eye ointment or salve to help cope with the dryness. Although I must stress that if it doesnt get any better soon you should go to a doctor to get it checked. All the best!
