Can someone explain "The Hunger Games"?

I don’t want all the details, because I plan on reading the books or seeing the movie… but I want to get a general idea of what it is about first… oh and if you have read/saw it, was it good?

My mum and two friends of mine have read it (I haven’t) and they thought it was pretty good. From what I know of it, and the one chapter I have read, it’s about a group of people who are selected to play in these games for the entertainment of their nation where only one survives. Seems like a bit of a suspense/action jobbie with a political/human rights underlying focus.

The movie trailer looks good and I’ll definitely be going to watch it =]

It takes place in the future. There are two main characters Katniss and Pita. 2 people from 12 divisions get picked every year to fight the Hunger games. If you win the games you get prizes and stuff. Its basically a blood bath. But all in all it is an amazig book. I have read all three of them. :)
