Why is ear cropping and tail docking illegal in most countries?

yes I know that katie but As i said I have had a dog with both done and he was totaly healthy and happy ^^ he nver suffered any associated problems with ear cropping and tail docking…. my friends all had dogs with either cropped ears and or docked tails…and also their animals died of old age and have lived very happy contented lives i think its just the backyard tail docking and ear cropping that is bad unhygenic and wrong but if done by a vet under gas then no probs…

Because it dosnt need to be done , i dont think its fair to do that to the dog , Its like someone chopping half your ear off it wouldnt hurt but it would be completely pointlss and un-neccessary , personally i am happy they banned it because would you love your dog any less simply because its tail and ears are slightly longer?

such as dobermans, rotwillers, great danes, Cane crossos and dogos :) all dying of old age not health related problems due to ear cropping and tail docking. :) U know something People say u should not get ur ears peirced cuz there are far to many nevers that can cause health probs…yet many get them done regardless and some even when babies. and no one falls sick or ill and i havev yet to see a dog fall ill either….they say it can happen but honestly has it really happened when done properly?

It’s illegal because it does cause pain to the animal(anesthesia doesnt last forever), it can get infected, it can cause major health problems, and it is purely superficial. It serves no medicinal purpose and therefor it is unneeded. How necessary and humane would it be if humans were allowed to have their children’s ears cropped or even have their teeth shaven into points as toddlers? Same concept, animals have just as much right to have their natural bodies and to not be put through unnecessary pain as humans. So the next time you think about how cute cropping and docking looks on a dog think about how cute it would have been if your parents had decided to cut off your pinky fingers b/c they think it looks better.

its not purely cosmetic…I don’t know about for all breeds but we dock tails for jack russell terriers and the reason is because they are a hunting dog and to get them out of the hole (they hunt in the ground) you pull them out by their tail, if it was long it could hurt the dog but in the breed standard it says the tail should act as a handle so its not always cosmetics its to help the dog do their job better

well, like i said in other posts i have had dogs who have had thier ears cropped and tails docks as part of the “standard” but nothing was wrong with them, cuz it was done properly…none of my dogs were in pain or suffered any illenese related to it being done… what was funny as a comment bleow stated Anesthesia dont last forever, it ture bt same when a dog gets desexed and well…ye u get my point?
