How to keep dyed black hair from getting a pastic look?
I’m considering dyeing my hair black, but most of my friends and my mums friends have had it done and it looks kinda like plastic. I belive it is partly from the damage of dyeing it, but is there anyway i can keep it from doing that or any brands that it won’t do that.
i’ve died my hair black twice and it never looks plastic? judging by your hair in your pictures you already have black hair anyways?
ohh, its more of a brown but still dying hair black never gives it a plastic kind of look.
It’s not from damage, it’s just from the colour, black has a blue base and more often than not, the blue comes through too much causing the hair to look plasticy and too shiny. You have a few options here, the best would be to actually use a dark dark brown as opposed to black- I swear, if you use the right one you won’t even notice that it’s brown, it will look black. If you’re doing the hair colouring yourself, then look for colour numbers on the box of dye, if the number is number 1, it’s black. Number 2 is very dark brown, number 3 is dark brown, 4 is brown, 5 is dark blonde and so on… You should aim to find a 2 or a 3. They will have another two numbers after the main number, for you, I’d suggest anything that isn’t 2 or 1 (eg: 2.22 or 3.21 or 2.12 or 3.11 etc) because 1s and 2s (for the numbers after the decimal) are blues and indigos which will make dark hair look darker and therefore plasticy. Try and find a colour beginning in a 2 or a 3, then a decimal . Then either a 3-4-or 5, or a 6 if you’d like a very slight reddy tinge.
- Another option is to use black dye, and after washing it out, scrub your hair with dishwashing liquid about 8 times. Your hair will feel like crap for a few days, but the reaction in the detergent will tone down the brightness.
