Dog on loose

Any dog experts have any ideas re:german shepards’ sensitive stomach…as in loose stool. I’ve lived w/dogs all my life and never encoun-terd this problem. The vet just keeps stuffing meds down the dogs throat (not lit.). Thanks in advance…red11

I’ve had German Shepherds for nearly 40 years…and yes they do seem to have sensitive stomachs…My current pupper had the worst time of any of them…after trying darn near every food on the market, I finally found one, a grain free kibble, that has kept his stools consitantly “healthy”…

GSD’s can also be prone to EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency)…I have 3 or 4 friends with GSD’s who suffer from this disease. All but one, has their dogs on raw diets, as fiber seems to exaberate the signs. The one who does not do the raw, uses a high grade, no grain, kibble. They ALL add the enzymes to the feed. If I recall, these enzymes have to sit on the food (mixed with water) for 30 minutes to be activated.

Here’s a link that tells about the signs of EPI…if your Vet hasn’t mentioned EPI, then I’d mention it to him… They can live long healthy lives with the addition of the enzymes.

I’ve had 2 german shephards and both of them have struggled with their stomachs…especially constipation..

You’ll need to speak to your vet about the correct diet for your dog. and take phrannie’s advice.

And phrannie thanks…I think this might just be the information we have been looking for…:)
