Do I have OCD?

Do I have OCD? I am neurotic about keeping things organized and in order, I can’t stand feet, yet I have no reason not to, I just hate them and they make me really anxious. I also won’t let anyone touch my bed unless they have showered within the last half hour, and that includes myself. I have to balance everything out (e.c. if I hit my right leg on a chair, my left leg has to hit a chair) etc. I have a horrible fear of my Dad dying in a plane crash on one of his business trips, and I always am paranoid. Do I have OCD? If so, what do I do about it?

I think just about everyone has some mild case of OCD. I have to organize my clothes by color and type, I also do it with my baby’s clothing. My kitchen cabinets are arranged by food type and everything has to face forward, labels out. Bottles in the bathroom have to face the same way and have certain shelves I like them to sit on. It’s just an organization and control issue. But yes, it’s kind of normal to have something like you do.

As long as you’re not having to switch lights on and off several times while exiting and entering a room, or doing a 30 minute routine checking to make sure everything is in place before leaving the house, I’m sure you are able to deal with it. Like everyone said, if it’s not interfering with your life, then it’s not serious enough to be treated.

Good Luck Jess

When it comes to diagnosing a disorder, one of the important parts is dysfunction, which is when something interferes with your life, and the other is distress. If this is bothering you and it is interfering with your life then yes you have OCD…

If you do decide you want to get help with it, there are psychologists who specialize in the disorder, the most effective treatment has been shown to be behavioral therapy, or cognitive behavioral therapy, some medications (like some antidepressants) also help with symptom reduction…

you show signs of ocd but not anything serious most people suffering from ocd have to have a daily routine which impairs them from living a normal life. being paranoid with your father dying on a plane is not something that comes from ocd is sounds more like anixety. I suggest going to get tested if you really need it but most people do have the same problems you have. They may not give you medication to help you with these problems because it does not sound very serious

I agree with overit. If it;s not interfering with your everyday life, then it’s probably very mild and might even go away as you get older.
