Why are there two different dimensions for my laptop?

My laptop is the Gateway FX P-7803H. I am trying to buy a custom skin for my laptop. I know for a fact my laptop measures out to be 17 almost 18 inches wide. Only the stretchy 17 inch cases fit my laptop and a laptop backpack made for 17 inch laptops were too small for my laptop, also, I measured it. :O The person I am buying for also makes the skin for the inside part of the laptop as well and asked me to link him to a site with my laptop. I’m rather dumb at reading this specifications stuff and I’m not quite sure which measurement is the one I’m looking for.

Oops meant to reply on this one. But yes I’m in Canada so that’s not a problem. And thank you :) I get quite lost with this stuff.
