The Nazi politics was basically about the war. Hitler wanted to conquer. The world. Or more. He was a total megalomaniac. They had a group of “good” people, they wanted to use as overlords of the world, the “aryan race”. All of his politics was about making the “aryan race” strong. Everyone else was “Untermensch” (lower human). And was to be conquered and oppressed. And the Jews were the scapegoat who were to blame for everything. And there was also the “Jüdische Weltverschwörung” (Jewish world conspiracy). The nazis invented that to scare their people (they needed some justification for prosecuting all those people) and to give them a clear concept of the enemy.

The soviet politics was about the great revolution. There was that original idea of the poor, working class taking over. And then people began to become paranoid about being undercut by the old aristocracy, the rich and their minions. And then that guy Josef Stalin came to power and used that prevailing paranoid sentiment in order to do away with everyone who was potentially endangering his position. So they did not kill certain groups of people systematically, but they chased for everyone who was in any way suspicious of being counterrevolutionary. The foreign politics was also different from the Nazi one. They drove the Nazis off of their territory and then established the “Soviet states”. Not in order to conquer them, but in order to have the other poor, working class folks there take over, too. Yet the Russians never trusted the other soviet nations. So they kept their hands on, in order to make sure the “proletarian revolution” does not fizzle out. Stalin was basically also a insane dictator, just with a different justification.
