What is the difference between the USMC and the USN?

I tried googling it but I didn’t understand. Does anyone have an easy explanation? I’m writing a story for a project and I would like to have a bit of information about these two armed forces. Thanks in advance.

Answer #1

Okay, I know very little about the US’s armed forces, but I will give it a go.

The USMC is the United States Marine Corps. I then assume that the USN is United States Navy?

Now the USMC is part of the Navy as a whole. You can’t really compare the two as the one is a division of the other. You could compare something like the Marines to the Seals as both are divisions of the navy.

But this all assumes that USN stands for United States Navy which I am not sure of.

Answer #2

yes USN stands for the US navy. thx that clears up a few questions. do you happen to know what the US marine corps do? sort of like what exactly is their job? i appreciate the help.
