People are forever looking for secrets about dieting, and quick easy ways to shed kilos but in reality the only healthy and long term way to loose weight is to eat less, eat healthier, and exercise more. There is no secret! Cut out foods like pasta/noodles/white bread and other unnecessary carbs, and eat more fresh vegetables and grains. Drink plenty of water! -I probably shouldn’t advise this but coffee helps me personally. I don’t drink it with any sugar or milk though. Just coffee and hot water. It speeds your metabolism and heart rate causing you to burn food faster. Not reeeally fast, just faster than usual.

The word “diet” is used different ways. For some they mean the foods they normally eat for others it is a temporary regimen they go on to loose weight. Any weight loss plan will work if you faithfully follow it. Quick fad diets can let you drop a boatload of weight but the vast majority of dieters gain it all back after they go off their plan. Instead of going on a short-term extreme diet you should make permanent improvements to your normal diet. The best advice that I’ve seen for improving your diet comes from doctors McDougall, Esselstyne, and Fuhrman.

To lose fat for competitions, I go on high-protein, medium-carb, low-fat diets. I find that my body reacts better to medium amount of carbs and slightly lower fat than most people’s approach with lower-fat and low-carb dieting.

Typically, my diet consisted of: Mon-Wed: Med-Carb, Low-Fat Thur-Sat: Low-Carb, Med-Fat Sun:300 calorie surplus of refeeding back to normal levels.

Now, when it comes to dieting, I’d recommend just doing your own thing and seeing how the body reacts. Most people who try these whole “Keto diet” or “Low Fat/Carb” diet, don’t quite understand HOW these work. In order to diet properly, you have to educate yourself on proper hormone function and suggested nutrient intake in order to see good results.

For me, before I go on a diet to gain weight, I usually eat at my maintenance level to sustain my current weight and adjust my hormones and metabolism back to normal. After a cut, your metabolism usually slows down and your hormones go out of tune, so if you started dieting to gain weight, you’ll see quite a bit of fat gain. That’s why i diet at maintenance for a week or two until my body is better.

Some guidelines to healthy diets:

  1. Get 1g of protein/lb. of bodyweight, 1.5-2g of carbs/lb., and 0.3-0.5g of fat/lb.
  2. Calories are what makes you gain/lose/maintain weight. So understand how to calculate your maintenance to know how much to eat to one of the three.
  3. Eating every 2-3 hours is false and won’t do anything to metabolism or muscle growth. It is scientifically proven that timing of meals is irrelevant to any sort of fat loss or muscle gain, so eat when you have time. The only group this method of meal timing applies to is the Elite Professional athlete who has been training for 12+ years.
  4. Water is important. Water is a natural diuretic. The more you drink, the more you pee. Eventually you’ll get rid of water weight at a healthy rate like this. Coffee works too.

There are no magical ways of losing or maintaining weight. It all comes down to understanding your body and nutrition in general.
