how can you tell if a diamond is real?

will it scratch glass.

but yes the only sure way to find out is to have a jeweler look at it.

then it is a pretty good chance it is a true diamond.

I think quartz will scratch glass too sometimes- but being it is set in a gold band- it is probably a diamond.

Only a jeweller can understand whether it’s real or fake.To make sure you buy a real diamond, I recommend you to shop from established store .

If you scratch it on glass (like a mirror or window), and the glass scratches, then the diamond is real. Since diamonds are harder rocks than glass, they cut the glass without harm coming to the diamond. A fake diamond will not cut the glass. Hope this helps. :)

It doesn’t refract light so well so if you hold it against a newspaper, you shouldn’t be able to read the letters (the letters should be blurred.) Diamonds also don’t fog easily so that if you breathe on it to make it fog, the fogging should disperse easily. If you heat it, it shouldn’t be hot or if it becomes hot it should cool down very quickly.
