What is "Day of Silence"?

When is it? How would you ask your school to partispate in it, if you live in canada?

I’m not sure when it is but it’s a day to honour GBLT (gays, bis, lesbians and transgenders).. they don’t talk all day to represent the people who are in hiding about their sexuality or the treatment and harrasment many recieve..if you want your school to celebrate it just ask to talk to your principle and explain why you think it’s important your school celebrates it.

It is April 15 and it is a day where it promotes anti-bullying, harrassement, homophobia. You can make an appointment with your VP talk to them about this cause see if they will support it. If not, gather a bunch of students who will support it and spread the word. Get permission to put up posters or flyers from your VP or whoever is incharge. As well, set up a Facebook event for it, invite all your friends and get your friends to invite all their friends. Ask them to register to the official site. http://funadvice.com/r/14snlu9l7o8

Day of silence is a day where people who are bi/gay/lesbian or support those who are, spend the whole day not speaking. They do this to honor those who have fallen or given up due to the neglect people have done to them. WE do it to show we’re not afraid to show who we are, and that no one should be afraid to show who they really are. This year Day of Silence is on the 15th of April this year. (: I hope this helped. (: Oh! Ummm I wouldn’t really “ask” anyone, i’d just send out a mass text or tell a bunch of my friends about it a few days or so before the 15th :) then if they participate, they participate; if not, then of well (: Hope I helped (:

We had Day of Silence when I went to school. We actually had this glass display case in the center of our main hallways, and the kids from the LGBT club would actually take turns getting in the glass box with tape across their mouth to send a message to the students. No one in the club would speak all day; it was just a really great thing to raise awareness about and to show other LGBT students that they don’t have to be afraid or hide their sexuality. It was a really brave and cool thing to do. We had a Gay/Straight alliance club, and the teacher who ran it actually had the students do some research and suggest the idea to the principal. As long as it’s well-organized your school probably won’t have any issues with it.
