Does it make a difference if an acoustic guitar has a cut-out or not?

Answer #1

Mainly it allows you to reach the higher notes on the higher frets, and technically the guitar will be quieter, as the resonance will have a smaller area inside the guitar, but that is very unlikely to be something you would ever actually notice. I find cutaways easier to hold, as they sit on your leg nicely and in my opinion look better. Some guitars (like this: [link removed]) only have a fairly light cutaway, so the difference isn’t large, whereas others ([link removed]) are much more pronounced. Basically you should find one which suits your tastes. The 2nd example I gave costs much more, but they don’t have to be more expensive.
