legal to move out in one place like perhaps at the age of 17

If you are legal to move out in one place like perhaps at the age of 17. Would you able to live in other states of the U.S., the ones that the age to live legally is 18 by yourself? or would you just be banned from living there by yourself at that age alone?

Answer #1

umm if you are immancipated [*sp] you can live alone… I had a friend in high school who moved out when she was 17 and still recieved her father’s child support checks, so I’m not sure on the details, but the appartment was in her name, and she had a case worker helping her with the details [of which I am oblivious to, lol]

The laws of the state will govern whether or not you can obtain housing in your own name.

See, it’s illegal for someone to rent property/contract with a minor though. If the state you’re going to says you have to be 18, you’re not going to find anywhere to live.

Call Legal Aid in whichever city you’re looking to go to and ask. . .their attorneys are able to answer the question and most of the time will answer with just a phone call.
