Does chewing on plastic caps harm your teeth and gums?

Yes this may sound weird, but I do chew on plastic bottle caps…and I usually dont feel pain in my back layer of teeth, but whenever I bite down in that one section, I have like a very odd pain and it feels like a wire is striking across i or whatever. So…does this harm it in a way? It’s a habit I got attached too and yeah….I try to stop :l
