Do you consider Chaz (Chastity) Bono a whole man, or do you still see him as a woman?

Chastity, daughter of Sonny and Cher, went through the process to become a man, and the government has her registered as a man, but do you still see a woman, or do you see a man?

Answer #1

Did they go through all the operations and such? If he wants to be known as a man, I would likely call him as such. I don’t know if I would particularly see them as completely a man though. For instance, I don’t know if this sounds bad, but I don’t think I could ever go out with someone like that. Yes, it would probably bother me a little, I admit that I’m not quite that open minded on the topic. However, if it were a friend or relative I’d be cool with it and just let them be what they want to be.

Answer #2

I still see her as a woman who is just physically altered to look like a man.

Answer #3

I see her as a female. She was born a female, I dont care what kind of operations she’s had or not, you are what you were born as in my eyes. I dont believe in the whole “I was a man trapped in a woman’s body” or vice versa, thing.

Answer #4

. I see individuals primarily as “people”, rather than primarily “male” or “female”. . I am not familiar with the individual you refer to, but if I met him, I have no doubt that I would percieve him (as I do with many people) as being within a spectrum of behavioural patterns somewhere midway between extreme masculine and extreme feminine. . I am generally speaking more influenced by someone’s genuine personality traits ather than the specifics of their genitalia, mode of dress, or any affected histrionic playacting. .

Answer #5

Completely a woman. No matter what she wants to be, she’s a woman, and I will call her a woman. Same with other transgendered people.

Answer #6

When we discuss someone’s sex we are describing physical characteristics. Someone’s sex can be determined by examining their chromosomes. Two X chromosomes and you have a woman; an X and a Y you have a man. One of my acquaintances is a cytologist and one of her duties is to sex babies with ambiguous genitalia. Sometimes doctors can’t tell the sex of the child by just looking. Also, some people have the wrong genitalia for their sex and only discover their true sex years later. In addition to one’s sex there is also something called gender. Gender is the roles, activities and attributes society attributes to masculine or feminine. Nobody is perfectly their gender. Some women like football and some men are good at finding things. When someone’s gender attributes are those of the opposite sex they can have problems. Society is generally more tolerant of girl tom boys than boys that are effeminate. Some people like this seem fine; they may be “sensitive” men or “butch” women. Others never feel right living the gender associated with their sex. As far as Chaz being a “whole” man you could argue that without testicles and no Y chromosome (s)he isn’t whole. We refer to dogs who have been castrated as neuter implying that the dog is neither male nor female any more. I would argue that the way Chastity/Chaz feels about him- or herself is more important than physical traits. You could just as easily say someone isn’t a whole man who doesn’t like to go hunting or admits to being wrong. I say whichever makes Chastity/Chaz happy being is who (s)he is.

Answer #7

Great answer - wish I’d posted it !

Answer #8

I look at Chaz as more of a man now than I do a woman. It’s just starting to set in that Chaz is pretty much a guy now, other than not having the sex organ. Sometimes I still see him as a woman, but mostly a man.
