What should I know about Cavilier King Charles Spaniels?

I am thinking about getting a Cavilier King Charles Spaniel puppy, and I was wondering if there was any advice anyone could give me.

I am an experenced dog owner and currently own an Aussie. She is 12 and very relaxed. My current dog, Maggie, does not get along well with other dogs, but does fine with all our pets. (she warms up quite well).

We have 3 cats (I sound like a hoarder, lol!) who differ from eachother extremely. All excepted Maggie, who came last. I assume they will find no threat in a tiny dog….

I do plan on training my dog (from sit to more advanced commands and tricks) and am no stranger to training. Maggie, my current dog, used to do adility with me, and I am teaching her new tricks all the time.

I have never owned a puppy before, but have done a lot of reading up, and am ready for a challenge.

So, what should I know? Any tips on potty training? I have a bell on the door to the backyard for my dog, but the only one who uses it is the cat!

Thank you in advance!

hey i have a dog hes a terrier and with smaller dogs u have to be aware of certain things especially with puppys.Beware gates with large holes like picket fences if the dog is small enough to fit through it. And with the potty training issue id say google it or maybe turn on the animal channel for some tips ( its me or the dog is a helpful one! ) because every dog and breed is different. i hope this helps :)

Thanks! I have googled it a copuple times, and found out how to do it. I was hoping someone who had done it a few times had some tips (like what works best).

We do have a gate, but it is only accessible from the front door, and she/he would not be out by him/herself. The backyard is closed off tighly. (and puppies shouldn’t be unattended outside anyway).

I’d be worried about the older dog biting or snapping at the excited happy puppy jumping all over her. I’d slowly introduce them. Potty training a young puppy can be easy or difficult. Always kennel them when you are gone, and at night. Never hit or yell at the puppy for pottying on the floor. If you see or the potty is warm bring the puppy back to it, say no firmly, and bring it outside right away. Take the puppy out as soon as you wake up, after it eats, when your going to bed. Make sure durring the day you let him/her out every 45 minutes to a hour puppies don’t have big bladders they will go. Give alot of treats when it goes potty outside. Use a baby gate(s) to keep the puppy in the same room you are to moniter it. Remember training a dog both obidience and house training will make it easier young, if left tell older it will be alot harder. Plus in most cases then people will get rid of their dog.
