Catholic and christian

So whats the big difference between catholic and christian? I know some of them. But what really separates the two?

Answer #1

Actually, there is a big difference between them. The problem is there are so many of them. But we can divide them into two groups. The ones that believe and trust Jesus to go to heaven and the ones that believe they have to do good works to go to heaven.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, just like Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc…

It’s not a matter of ‘difference’, because there is nothing to set it apart…It’s like saying what’s the difference between Frito-Lay and potato chips…it’s a part of it, not a separate entity.

Answer #3

There used to be a huge difference at the time of the reformation. Protestants are called protestants because they are (or were) against catholic teaching. Go look it up some time. But basically it’s all about scripture ONLY for religious truth and faith ONLY for salvation, not anything tacked on. Individual interpretation of the Bible (rather than taught interpretatios) was also pretty popular around that time, probably due in part to the Renaissance.

Last I checked other churches still claim those two things yet they have added tons of their own teachings with only a passing regard for scripture and they’ll say you’re not saved if you don’t attend their church. Sigh.

good question, they all act the same, hardly a noticable difference. I have a few people I know who are now Christians and they say that they learned nothing, it was just a custom and it was boering. The differance between me and religion is that I am not religious, I read my Bible and live by it. I know I can not get to Heaven by good works and I know thhat I do not live in the old testament a time when there was no salvation and they had to go to the priest. imagine having to kill an animal everyday because you were a sinner. we no longer live in old covenant. Jesus had not been born or resurected so there was no salvation. these days we have Gods Holy Spirit to guide us to all truth and all understanding. we do have salvation, ask me if people take care of it and I will say all you have to do is look at their life. if they do not act according to what your built in conscience says is right, then they are just reliigious. if different then a true christian. Also a big give away are the idols. it totally speaks about that in the Bible it is all about the money. I speak what ex catholics say their experience was. this goes for any religion, God is not divided. man is the one who made up groups as they saw fit. but at the end of the day, religion can not save you when your sick, depressad, fornicating, a alcoholic or addicted to drugs. Only through a personal relation ship with the Lord can you ever be free. the truth when spoken by someone who is backed up by God will bring wonderful results.
