Are cartilage earrings the same as a regular earrings?

I think you’re talking about a helix piercing, most of your ear is cartilage :P but no the piercer should pierce it with a needle (if he whips out a piercing gun, run the other way) and it will be a bigger gauge than a lobe piercing. Lobe piercings are 18g I think and helixes are 16g. He should also be putting in a barbell or labret stud.

Well I got all my piercings at Walmart (pretty stupid) and I have my lobes and 2 cartilage piercings. Both my cartilage piercings after a couple years got all fxcked up, they always look swollen now and when I wear an earring in them they get really really sore, so I stopped. Now after a couple years I’m able to wear an earring in one of the holes, but the other one still gets really sore. Sooo, after reading the above comments I’m guessing using a gun was what did it… :/

Guns shatter cartilage and risk giving you an infection as they cannot be sterilized. I wouldn’t risk it. Personally I think guns hurt more anyway because they’re forcing a blunt piece of jewellery through your ear. Also anyone who pierces cartilage with a dirty gun shouldn’t be trusted.

No they use a needle. And I’ve heard needles are much better than guns.

Oh I see, I never knew that. And well I got a lope peircing with a needle n it hurt it haha n I figured it hurt more for a cartlige pericing but imma just get it done by a needle this time to.
