Car insurance claim

The other day I bumped into another car. Her bumper was damaged but my car is fine. I really dont want to claim on my car insurance because my insurance will go up, so am trying to sort it out by cash, but the woman said that she wants all my insurance details. Does she actually need them if I pay it in cash instead and if I do claim on my insurance, how do I go about doing it.? I dont want to tell my parents because they will kill me and I dont know what to do. Plase help!!!

The reason you have insurance is to help you out in times like these. I crashed my car into a BMW and the car was a complete write-off. I didn’t want to tell my mum either but I couldnt really get around it. After a couple of days (I had it towed - it wasn’t driveable) she said “Where is your car???” and I was like “Um…I crashed it…” and yea the sh*t hit the fan but she helped me out so it was okay. My insurance company said it would go up a bit after that so I just changed to a cheaper insurance company - easy peasy.

You need to call your insurance company and they will take a statement from you over the phone about what exactly happened. They will want all your details, all of the other driver’s details, and the time and location of the incident. You can’t sort it out by cash, you need to go through the right channels.

It’s hard to say what the other driver wants to do. Any reputable insurance company could have a claim made by the other driver even if you don’t. Offer to pay but you also owe her the insurance info just in case. I used to work for a major insurance company.

If you give her the insurance info more than likely thats how shes going to go about doing it..so there would be no point in giving her cash if she has your insurance info..if you do give her cash make sure you get a receipt or written doc that says you gave her the money have her sign or she can still file a claim against your insurance co sayin you never gave her anythng..NOT sayin she WILL do this but better be safe then sorry..Anyway I would say compromise with her and tell her you would rather give her cash instead of having insurance co involved…Some people will do it that way and some wont thinkin they would get more money from the insurance co…btw if you do decide to change insurance co it may still come up through your d.l number…I’m not Sure about that but I hope this helps…

It is the usual proceedure to exchange identification and insurance information after an accident. If the damage is over a few hundred dollars or there are any injuries you should report the accident to the police regardless of who is at fault.

If you are at fault for a minor accident but do not want to be ticketed or have a claim against your insurance you can offer to pay for the damage yourself. This is quite common. The other driver will still want your ID and insurance information for their protection should you later renege.
