hi! im a hairstylist so you can trust my advice, I dont want you to do the wrong thing and ruin your hair.

first of all, I understand that you may not have the money to go to a salon. hair coloring is one of the more expensive services at a salon. the only thing is with box hair color is it isnt good for your hair if you use it all the time. I even use it sometimes! you just need to be careful with the highlighting part because it involves bleaching that hair. if you put the red in your hair I suggest that you wait a good week before putting the highlights in. when you color your hair the hair color tends to stay in the hair longer than some people think. so even after you rinse when you dye it, there is still some of the product (color) in your hair. if you bleached it right after, that color would run into the bleach , but that is not the reason your hair turns orange when you bleach it, but it could cause that, so wait a week. the reason that bleach can turn orange is when people play around with bleach without a professional. when bleaching hair your lifting color from your hair. there are 10 different stages of bleaching or also called decolorizing. stage 1 is a red brown color and stage 10 is pale yellow. which is what most people aim for, this created that bleach blonde barbie hair. there are stages in between 1 and 10 obviously. 1 is darkest and 10 is lightest, but not everyones hair can reach the stage 10, pale yellow. some people try to leave the bleach on too long to achive that color, but then this results in damage to the hair. when you bleach your hair you should leave the bleach on until it lifts the color without it feelings mushy. if the hair feels mushy when the bleach is on rinse it out immediately. if it feels such after you rinsed, thats damage done by the bleach, you over processed it. over processing means that a chemical was left on too long, or too much of it was used, damaging the hair. now your hair my be able to not turn mushy even if it is almost at stage 10, but for other people they could be on stage 5, which is orange, and already need to rinse. in this case, you can either stop at that shade of color, or, wait to give your hair a break from chemicals(about another week or two) and go back after bleaching again but not for as much of a long time as you left the bleach on to get the orange color. to get rid of orange you only need to lift 2 stages, to get golden blonde, and this is completely clear out all orange. and if do it right when you go back and dont leave it on long, it wont damage your hair so dont worry. using bleaching is really tricky and you need to be careful! it can harm your hair and your scalp.
ill leave you picture of the stages of decolorizing (bleaching) to help you better understand. hope I helped! and if you have any other questions about this just ask!

Answer #3

Only if you want to dry out your hair and create an all-over carrot-orange effect… It’s better to consult a professional hair stylist for questions like this.

Answer #4

If you are using a box dye, look for the ones that have an all-over dye with highlights all in the same box. Otherwise, go professional.
