Can dogs see ghosts in the dark?

My dog when we are alone he barks at a black window or a dog or the top of the stairs. Can dogs see ghosts in the dark?

Answer #1

Hi Tammy, Dogs can see, smell and hear things that humans cant.

They can sense things that we are unable to sense.

I love to go horse riding and there is an area of the woods near me that is supposed to be haunted. Whatever the reason, most horses refuse to go down this track further than the supposed haunted spot.

I’m not saying it is a ghost, just that the horse is aware of something in that particular area that unsettles it and makes it very nervous,.

I dont know about your window or about the ghost bit but it sounds like he can senses something either thant or as toadly says, your dog is just playing with your head.

yes becuase animals can see hear and smell better than humans can and tests have shown animals can see ghosts better than we can and they can see them whether thay want to or not sometimes the animals will just think the spirit is a toy or unless they feel thretened then the animals attack.

Dogs hearing is very acute, and their sense of smell is millions times our own…a whiff of something, can raise the hackles of a dog…a coyote howling so far away, you can’t hear it will lift a head or raise the ears…

It’d be hard telling if it was a ghost, or something so far away, you’re simply not aware of it.

I think kiasu is right on the first part they can see and hear and sense things we cant as 4 the black window I pik up my jack russell and sees his reflection and others reflections so I think hes just barkin at his own reflection or of others

even my rocky used to do same, oneday suddenly he jumped to our bed and stare at window with his scary eyes, and when my mother wanted to divert his mind by making another sound he didnt bother. my mother got scared because it was 2 am at night and no one was in room and there is a chair near to window where my father used to sit. he is no more. it my mother think rocky could see my father’s spirit but I dont know whether he could but it made me feel happy that father came to see us.

Superstitions, people. Animals have better senses than people. The dog hears a raccoon in the trees and goes on alert. People can’t hear anything, so the superstitious ones think it must be a ghost. A horse walking a trail comes to a spot where a cougar has marked it’s territory, so the horse sensibly refuses to go on, as will the next horse and so on. The human rider can’t smell anything, and thinks the area must be haunted.

now: I have my own personal experiences when it comes to my dog acting strange at night. now, around 12:30-1:30 in the morning almost every night she will wake up and/or stop what’s she’s doing and look in the same area and bark and growl while. I’ve been in different rooms before and she will do the same thing and look in the same area and do the same thing at the same time. she also has barely peeked around the corner shaking (looking in the same spot), run back to me and repeat several times while being very uneasy.

now for dogs having an imagination, I believe that to be true. however, for a dog to have the same image every morning at the same time…come on, that’s stretchin for some comfort that nothing is there. I also live across the street from a graveyard and have cought my dog several times going outside and barking directly at it, yet, nothing is there at all. has done that in several spots around my house and specific spots in my house. all revolving around the same time.

also, the same area she barks/growls at most nights is directed towards the kitchen. oddly enough, she will come to me whenever I call her but when in the kitchen she will not pass the doorway. only time she will enter is to eat/drink/ and go outside. even at times I see her eating/drinking while ears down and in the kitchen just far enough to do so. can this be a peer coincidence? maybe, but how far can people pretend it’s only coincidence and when does it pass the line to belief.
