Would tighter gun control have stopped the VTech shooting?

Do you think stronger gun control laws would have prevented the VA Tech massacre?

Answer #1

I think if an evil person intends to commit a crime with a gun he will not check the gun laws first….legal/illegal, he will get his hands on a gun….who pays attention to the gun Laws ?….the law-abiding….whether the murderer used a 1) claw hammer, 2) knife, 3) gun, 4) tire-iron, etc….the problem was not 1,2,3, or 4….the problem was the PERSON.

Tighter gun controls would do nothing. I believe that if weapon permit carrying students and teachers were allowed to carry on campus it might have prevented the shooting. You disarm the bad guy by arming the good guys. If an armed teacher or student could have intervened then many lives could have been saved.

Someone with ill intent will do these things with or without the absence of laws.

Insta Check DOES take into account mental history. Anyone who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution cannot legally possess firearms.

We just had a scare at our college this week. A guy stole 10 guns and threatened the campus. Thankfully he is now in jail.

Maybe. If the little psycho had a full background check rather than a quick look for prior arrests then he never would have gotten a gun do to his unstable mental issues that were somewhat recorded. I do believe in a right to privacy, but I also believe that guns shouldn’t get into everyones hands now that we don’t have Redcoats marching through town collecting taxes at gunpoint. Certain mental health information would be nice to know about when you are selling someone a gun.
