I am 5’4’’ - 232 pnds. How many calories should I consume a day to lose weight?

If you keep your intake between 1800 - 2000 calories a day, AND increase your physical activity moderately, you will lose weight. I would suggest something that you enjoy doing for the activity - swimming, dance, sports, jogging, whatever.

With your diet, try to keep a record of what you eat for a week - be absolutely honest, but - for the first week only - do not worry about the calories. This is just to establish a baseline and help you locate the ‘low hanging fruit” - that is, you are locating the areas that are very easy to identify and correct. E.g. my “low hanging fruit” were 1.) Oreo cookies - I LOVE THEM - eat a pack in two days - or less. 2.) Multiple desserts. 3.) 4-5 Pepsi’s a day, plus several SWEET teas a day (18 packets of sugar - I count them out)

I over indulge, obviously. So, No more Oreos - I switched to a more diet friendly cookie; ate at least one piece of fresh fruit every day; stopped myself from taking the second dessert; and I switched to unsweetened coffee and unsweetened ice tea.
