are bridesmaids supposed to pay for their dresses or am i?

i feel rude saying i’d love it if you were my bridesmaid…now fork over some cash for a dress.

Answer #1

It’s typical for a bridesmaid to pay for her own dress…most do.

Answer #2

The old tradition is that the bride would pay. However, most modern weddings the bridesmaids now buy their dresses, i bought the last three for the wedding i was in. Just keep that in mind when picking out their dresses and dont go overboard on prices. If someone is struggling to pay but you want them there offer to help buy the dress for them.

Answer #3

Even if they were not a bridesmaid they would still have to buy a dress, so it’s not that bad to ask. A lot of weddings these days have the bridesmaids paying for their own dress. Hell, a lot of weddings now make everybody pay for their food and table!

Answer #4

At my sister’s wedding, we all paid for our own dresses. It’s not fun to have to pay, but if you pick a good dress, they’ll be able to use it for more than the one occasion. So, in that sense, they’d have more than one use.

I guess it really depends on the family, the country having it in & the wealth of that family!

In many countries they dont even have bridesmaids so there is no need to pay for anything less money for the young couple…

In NY till about 10 years ago, the bride would pay for the dresses…but with people loosing their jobs & a lot of their salaries being cut down they stopped doing that!

In fact, in my wedding on 2001, i had cut it all down to size… i had 1 made of honor, 1 bridesmaid, 2 flower girls(i paid for the flower girls dresses…1 ring boy also got his tux and my ex just had my made of honor’s fiance as his best man & my made of honor’s brother walk the bridesmaid down the aisle….small yet traditional (the rest paid for their own dresses/tuxs(even got my ex the tux…)

what did you guys do for you wedding ceremony if you have already?! :)

Answer #6

here the bride usually pays. I dont know anyone who has paid for their own bridesmaid dress, mine were all bought for me. Like Renee said though, they would have to have a dress to wear to the wedding anyway so if you needed them to buy their own, I dont think it would be a big deal
