Benzoyl peroxide gel made my face burn

When I was puttin on the benzoyl peroxide gel my face was burning for the first time.

Shud I stop using it ??? Or see a doctor ??

Answer #1

Ignore these ridiculous overreactions.

Benzoyl Peroxide is very potent. The burns will go away in a few days, don’t apply anything to the burnt area for now. Basically it works by drying out the skin, it’s whole method of working is to dry skin out.

You need to get a lower % of it. Try starting on a 2.5% dose, I’m guessing you’ve gone for 5% or above?

It’s nothing to worry about.

You can always use a test patch by applying it to the inside or your elbow overnight and if any irritation occurs discontinue use. Some brands say that when you apply benzoyl peroxide for the first time and burning sensations occur then it means the product is working but it would be better seeking a doctor and asking for their opinion because benzoyl peroxide generally causes terrible allergic reactions such as swelling, itchiness, burning, redness etc. It’s best to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet lights during use or after a reaction. If you don’t get any of the symptoms then remember to use only small amounts in the areas affected by acne/pimples. I find that Doxycycline Hydrochloride tablets work very well, and if any, only small pimples appear! But you need a prescription from a doctor to use these. I haven’t received any symptoms from those tablets, while after using benzoyl peroxide I got all the bad symptoms ):

According to drugs.com: Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; dizziness; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); excessive burning, itching, redness, or tenderness of the skin; extreme dryness; severe irritation; sloughing of the skin; swelling of the treated areas.

Take care !!

Answer #4

Stop using it immediately and if it doesn’t stop for burning rather consult a doctor..

I would suggest first finding out what type of skin you have before trying anything like this for the first time (assuming you are using it for acne). People with dry skin also get acne sometimes and using a product like this could severely damage your skin. Rather go see your doctor for a better product to use.
