What is Bacterial Vaginosis?

How do you get it and get rid of it at home? A friend of mine told me she had BV and she is really upset over it. I’ve never heard of it and I was wondering if there were any home remidies to help.

There arnt. It needs to be treated with anti-biotics. Its just when the normal bacteria of the vagin.a is altered, causing infections. It is not really an STI (though for some reason some people consider it to be) - there is no evidence that it is transmitted sexually. It does occur more commonly when a woman is sexually active, (especially with a new partner) but it can happen to women who have never had sex. Its very easy to treat with anti-biotics and extremely common. It will happen to about a third of all women at some point in their lives.

Does it keep returning? Can it hurt your reproductive system? Because she had it for like 2 years… she tried some stuff from the drug store to help, but it only worked until she had sex again… Could it be a reaction to condoms? And does Planned Parenthood or any clinics care for these things?

Answer #3

Its possible for it to be recurrent. Best thing to do is to get a course of antibiotics, take the whole course, then go on probiotics, and ask a pharmacist about a product to maintain a good vagin.al pH. That can help stop them coming back. If the infection travels into the uterus then it can affect fertility. Im not sure if you can go to planned parenthood (im not from the US). Just make sure she sees a GP.

Thanks for the help. I am coppying this to her ^_^

Answer #5

Planned parenthood should be able to help her or at least direct her to a free government clinic or something that can help her.
