At what age can you choose where you want to live

Ok so my mother and I don’t really get along and a friend of mine told me that I can choose if I want to live with her or my dad with out having to have her consent. I just want to know if that’s true.

Answer #1

In Illinois it is 14 year old as my ex daughter ran away to her mom house and stated she wanted to live with her, so she stayed there and went to count and she continued to stay there thank God for her sake and mine..

Answer #2

well yea ti’ll 18 ( my opinion*) but I don’t really know cause one of my friends have tha same prob. but if your younger, then your gonna have 2 go 2 court and the judge will decide…

Answer #3

like 18 but at that age you reallly dont have any skills t actually live in a decent place unless you get a roommate

Answer #4

This depends, once you become a teenager they will take your request into consideration, however, at the end of the day it will come down to who they believe is the fitter parent. By about 15 or 16, they dont argue too much with you on where you want to live (again, assuming your parents are equally fit parents)

Answer #5

The answer varies totally by state. In some states, for example, the court must honor the preferences of any child 14 years old or older or spell out its reasons for disregarding that preference. In other states, the preference of a child is only one of many factors the court is instructed to consider in deciding issues of child custody. You can probably get a good idea of your state’s approach by entering “(your state) custody child preference” in any search engine.

Answer #6

At age 14 and you must go to court and have a good reason to go and or under 14 but only if the person you live with right now Is bad to you or she hits you calls younames then the court will thensay you will love with your dad or 4 weeks to see and it works out good then you live with your dad until 18

-I hope everything works out for you

Answer #7
