No, unfortunately they havent come up with a cure for asthma, just treatment plans… Changes in lifestyle are important… Things that collect dust are bad, especially in the bedroom, so rugs/carpets should be avoided… If you’ve got pets, well dont get new ones with fur or feathers and dont let them into her bedroom Stay away from secondhand smoke, this is usually a bad trigger If there’s a dusty attic or whatever, make sure someone else cleans or goes in there to get something Make sure air filters are changed regularly Know your triggers… sometimes even some food can trigger asthma (this I dont get, but my mum gets sick everytime she has tamarind…) (the doctor should have gone over these with your mum, but it is important to follow those instructions)

I have lived with asthma my entire life, it has never completely gone away, most likely never will. I had a near fatal incident when I was 3 years old- my airways constricted to the point that I had zero respiration. it is odd- but I remember it like it was yesterday, watching tv, and then gasping for air, and then not being able to gasp because of the constricted airway. my mother noticed me turning blue and rushed me to the hospital- ( as luck would have it- just a few blocks from my house). so YES, asthma can be fatal if an asthma attack occurs away from help, or if no rescue inhaler is available. with an adult, I believe the risk is still present- but less.

so I believe as long as your mother is using her medication- and has her inhaler with her always, things will be fine. just remember that there has to be airflow present in order to cough or choke- so hearing that is a sign that a little bit of air is at least making it into her lungs. living with asthma is tough- but with modern medicine- it is a lot easier today then it used to be. I am surviving it with very little difficulty, so as long as your mother follows her doctors advice- she will be fine.

best to do what the doc says. Can’t really do anything without being looked at by a doctor.

Remember: They are professionals :) We aren’t sadly… :\
