How should I approach this situation?

I let my friend borrow my Playstation 2 with a couple of games, because I was planning on selling it and figured he could have some fun with it before I got rid of it. Well I let him borrow it for about a month and a half, I just got it back tonight. I hooked it all up turned it on and popped a game in, to make sure it works. I didn’t think he would break it, but its better to try before posting it on craigslist so no one gets ripped off. Anywho, it sounded like a chainsaw. Oh, and to boot it didn’t read the disc and just doesn’t work. The fan isn’t spinning very fast, fast enough that I can’t see it, but not fast enough to be putting out a whole lot of air.

Should I make him pay for all of it? Half of it? None of it? I’m really screwed here I needed that money bad. Thank you.

You should charge him how much you would have charged anybody. He’s your friend and you let him borrow it… it should have taken care of it. Make sure you address it soon, so he doesn’t try to say that happened while it was in your care (I’ve had that happen before) In the future you probably shouldn’t let somebody borrow anything for that long lol.

Answer #2

Agreed. Nuff said.

Answer #3

agree with moe. he broke it and he needs to pay for it

Answer #4

but if it would have been in your hands can you be 100% sure that it wouldnt have broke? if its a sony fault and would have broke anyway then no he doesnt owe you anything… get it checked out by a ps2 expert and see if they can pinpoint where it went wrong.

Answer #5

I don’t want to put money into someone looking at it; I can’t; I’m broke.

Answer #6

There’s a simple rule I like to live by - never let a friend borrow anything that you can’t afford to lose. Too many friendships have been ruined because people expected their friend to take care of an item, or pay back money borrowed….if I lend something, I expect to never see it again. In the end, is it worth it to damage the friendship? You’re going to have to figure this out on your own…what’s more important to you?
