Anxiety Problems

I have really bad anxiety and it’s not easy to deal with. I sometimes have anxiety attacks and it’s scary and my boyfriend gets really worried. I’ve always been this way and it always seemed kinda normal but I recently moved into my grandmother’s house because my stepmom abused me since I was 3. This is a condensed version. I guess you could funmail me if you want the whole story. It’s pretty long.

All I want to know is how I can calm my anxiety. I can’t go to a therapist because my insurance doesn’t cover it.

Also, I have a bit of a twitch I guess you could say. Like… I’ll just be sitting there and I’ll twitch out of nowhere. And sometimes they get really bad. I figured I’d throw that in there just in case. Please help

Let me ask one question to you off the bat: How are you sleeping at night? Do you wake up in between the time you go to bed and by the time you wake up? Are you prone to “freaking out” whenever stress comes visiting? If you answer yes to any of these questions, you may be suffering from GAD or General Anxiety Disorder. I must confess that I, too, suffer from this. There are medications that your doctor can give you, but those solutions are band aids. Check and see whether you suffer from a sleep disorder called Sleep Apnea which is linked to GAD, and yes, panic attacks. The disorder is more pervasive than you think as millions of Americans suffer from it without being diagnosed.

There are places that offer thereapy on sliding scales… Like universities that have training programs… I dont know where you are, but there’s definitely ways to get therapy at a low fee (like $15 a session). And you could also try antianxiety medication… I really would advocate therapy, but I guess you can try relaxation exercises, yoga, breathing exercises…
