Adopting a Dog

I am a boxer lover, and had one for almost 10 years. I have seen several at the animal shelters/rescues. I have never adopted from a shelter, do most of the adult dogs be harmless at the shelters?. I want to adopt a boxer, but when you do not know dogs background, I feel you are taking a big chance on how there behavior is. I would love to rescue a boxer, do anyone have advise on the chances of the boxer being aggressive with children or other dogs. My boxer was very friendly, but I got him when he was a pup.

it depends.I think before you adopt the dog that you should test.bring children around it at the shelter and maybe even on another dogg!

Shelters are great places to go to get a dog! There are also breed specific rescues all over the country. Try to search on the internet for Boxer rescues in your state, I bet you’ll find some. Dogs in shelters are there for a variety of reasons. some were abandoned, some strayed off from their owners, lost, and some surrendered due to owners not being able to care for them. Most of the time the people who work at the shelters spend time with these animals and have an O.K. sense of their behavior and won’t adopt out an agressive dog to their knowledge.

I have adopted 4 dogs, and 3 cats from either a shelter or the vet clinics that I was working at.

I think it is a great idea, I have on deaf aussie from a shelter. I think all of your consures are great. I would take your child with you. go for visit’s and spend sometime with the dog outside. Watch for signs, how is it standing, where are the ears places, hackles, tail, watch for how the dog acts, And Please keep in mind all dogs can be rehabilataed, Just depends on how much time and engery you want to put into it. Good luck and I hope you find your new dog
