Answer #1

NO………….

Answer #2

Part of the National Fabric (makeup) of Britian….Long-standing Traditions should not be summarily dismissed in the name of ‘change’…..

Answer #3

No.

Answer #4

No I don’t believe so. They no longer have the arbitrary rule they once had long ago. They are now a part of a long tradition.

Answer #5

No. Our Royal family is stronger than any other royal family in the world they probably have millions of admirers not just in Britain. If it’s for an essay you could mention how republicanism is slowly growing in the UK. The monarchy is expensive and claims they cost a British adult 60-70p a year although people have said with all their trips abroad etc they cost the taxpayer around £202 million and it’s the most expensive monarchy in Europe. You can argue that they generate a lot of money as people come to the UK to visit them. You can say it’s good because people can support the monarch if they don’t agree with the government as the Queen isn’t allowed to choose sides, they provide unity, stability, continuity (as you saw with the jubilee bringing people from all over the Commonwealth) and you could mention that a British republic has already been tried and failed back in the 1600’s.

I hope that helps!

Answer #7

There homes would generate a lot more money if they were emply and the gates open all year round…and of course the new cemetry would be another tourist attraction.

Answer #8

thank you!! :)

Answer #9

Yes. Why should ordinary hard working people be paying taxes towards the maintenance of this monarchy? Fine if it brings tourism to Britain… but that has nothing to do with the frivolous spending of money when people are struggling at the other end. This is over £75 million a year!

Having these remnants of the feudal system still alive and kicking in 2012 is quite mind-blowing. No humans need to be worshipped and so entitled this way, for doing nothing except enjoying a birthright. It’s still peasants and Kings.

Answer #10

Yes. In my point of view they do nothing active to help the nation other than bring the tourists in. They weren’t elected; the only reason they are in the Royal Family is because they were born into it and that is the soul reason they are “eligible” to rule over Britain. We’d be better off using the tax payers money for the people of Britain rather than a family who simply watch over it.

Answer #11

Absolutely not. People might complain about the Queen and the Royal Family but at the end of the day the majority of people love it. It’s just one of those things that is quintessentially British. Likewise, I imagine that the amount of money made through tourism because of people wanting to see the royal family more than makes up for their costs.

The monarchy presents a sense of unity. I mean, how many countries across the Common Wealth participated in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations?

Answer #12

The monarchy is part of British culture. At this point they have little real power and mainly act as figureheads. I think the monarchy needs to be scaled way back. Some vestige of the monarchy should remain but as it stands today it is far too expensive to justify.
