Should I be worried about this abnormal period?

Normally when I get my period, its painless. Sometimes it might hurt for like an hour or so when I first get it (a little cramp), but thats all. I never have any other pain or anything. This time was completely different. It came 4 days early (usually I get it the same time every month, I keep it calendered online so I know when to expect it), much heavier then usual, and I am having a lot of pain. My breasts are really sore, im having a lot of cramps in my stomach, and sharp abdominal pain. I’ve been having this pain for a day now. Should I be concerned?

As they say before me, the body just goes through some changes. Its the same as when you get your first periode, its changes buts its normal. I’ve been havind periodes not at the same time each month, sometimes two times a month and sometimes not at all. My breast are continuesly sore, they hurt when I take off my bra and they dont have any support ( and I dont have big breasts either). All of that is normal, and the cause is just hormon having a party in you body. You can look up the cause and treatment for sore breasts on the net, its a quite familiar problem for women. The changes will continue throughout life as the body adjust, and finally there will be no periode at all. (oh the joy!) If you feel the periode is the cause of you getting more tired and weary than normal, be sure you get enough iron (especially), sleep, food and exercise. The pill and many more preventiv measures are very helpful when it comes to keep the periode regular (or to lose it ) and diminishing the pain and sideeffect.

I don’t think you should be worried about it. I am in the same situation as you and I went to the doctor and they told me not to worry about it. They mentioned that sometimes your body goes through changes as time goes on. If it is heavy, that comes along with all those symptoms that you have been feeling. You should take tylenol for the mean time.

You might try birth conrol pills. You periods will almost always be regular, like clock work. And cramping and pain seems to be a lot better than without. That’s just an idea anyway.

Dear stephanief987, Some of us get PMS and discomfort as you describe every month and it’s a normal procedure that we can endure with over the counter meds. However, there are some women who have endometriosis that causes their discomfort. This is why it is important to see a doctor when there are changes such as this. With a few simple tests the doctor can determine if you have any problems and can treat them. No point in suffering if there is a way to prevent it. Sue…good luck
