2% Milk

My 1 year old son hates milk! He has been drinking from a sippy cup since he was about 7 months old and my pediatrician nurse said to put him on 2% milk and he hates it. I have never had whole milk before, should I try that with him? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and plan to ask about it but thought maybe someone would have an idea as well. HELP!

thats what my Dr said when my kids went from nursing to regular milk..whole milk..maybe he will drink choc milk? Better then no milk at all and he is getting the calcium he needs…just make sure you rinse his mouth out or have him drink water or brush his teeth that he does have and never let him go to bed with a bottle, choc milk or not…not good for their teeth.

There is stuff such as ENSURE for kids, it comes in all kind of flavors. Also if your child likes Chocolate, give him chocolate milk.If your child eats cereal get him a bowl with a straw so he can drink the milk. Hoe this helps…Good luck!!

I am surprised that your healthcare nurse suggested 2%. Colethky is right – children need the fat content in whole milk

You can try the whole milk, it wouldn’t hurt any. My daughter (she’s about to be 2 in march) is the same way, she hates milk. I get her to drink it by putting a scoop of apple rice cereal in it. It gives it a different taste, and she loves it. It may be weird, but at least she’s getting the calcium she needs!

My doctor’s always told me to start out with whole milk because babies need the extra fat for brain development. I agree with what jess said…try mixing it with other stuff. My youngest never liked milk so I would give her cereal with milk…like Cheerios and lots of baby yogurt. I also tried the Carnation Instant Breakfasts with her when she was one and she really liked them. She just hates the flavor of milk so I would mix whatever I could with it so she would eat it. You can also try giving him American Cheese…it would give him a lot of the Calcium he needs.

Good luck and remember just to get creative :)
