21.3 pound cat

I have a 4 year old indoor cat named Sammy. He’s neutered and declawed in the front. He’s super friendly with a strong personality. The only problem is… he weighs 21 pounds. Sammy is getting kinda heavy to pick up!! We put him on a diet food and I’m not sure if that’s helping too much. I love Sammy so much; I want him to live as long as he can. Any advice on how I can get my cat in better shape?? (And yes, I know round is a shape but I want him in a different one.)

Answer #1

Also you should try limiting his intake to about 2/3 to a cup a day. Restricted calorie food of any kind doesn’t work if the one eating it isn’t eating it in moderation; the food is restricted or reduced calorie, not calorie free.

Answer #2

Try to take him out on walks…though, I dont’ know if that works with cats as well as dogs. If he’s not interested in going walkies, then perhaps get some cat toys?

Cat toys that come to mind: balls of yarn, string balls, scratching posts, toys that roll around, things that bounce, etc. These will help keep the cat in better shape, if he plays with them, naturally, you can ecourage the cat to chase the objects.

Good luck.
