How long do you think it would take to cover the Eiffel Tower with duct tape?

Answer #1

Height of the Eiffel Tower: 324 m (1,063 ft) Base of the Eiffel Tower: 124,90m×124,90m or 409.77ft × 409.77ft Length of usual duct tape roll: 30m Width of standard duct tape: 48 mm (that is 0,048m)

So, you need (324/0,048=6750) to make 6750 rounds around the tower in order to reach the necessary height. If you do not overlap, that is.

Now for the necessary length of the tape… The base is 4*124,90= 499,6m circumference. The tip is just an antennae. Probably no more than one meter circumference. The lower third of th tower is broad, then it gets more slender. So I’m guessing that 2250×499,6m= 1124100m is a goof value for the length of duct tape we’ll need.

You will need to overlap the tapes at the ends, in order to connect them. So I calculate an average overlap of 10 cm (4 inch) at each side for every tape. That effectively makes the tape 29,8m long 1124100/29,8 is 37721,47.

You will need to wrap 37722 rolls of duct tape around th Eiffel tower.

Assuming you brought a container with all your 37722 duct tape rolls to the base of the tower as well as crane for the lower levels which you will use to lift yourself up the tower and climbing equipment for th upper levels. And then you go to one corner of the tower and start duct taping the thing… I assume it will take about 5 minutes and approximately 10 duct tape rolls - halfway the first round - until the French police show up with a couple of guys in white coats who want to give you a straightjacket.
