Does sleeping make you lose weight?

okay ive be sleep in the day time and i noticed i been losing weight ?? i eat alot i mean alot but everytime i go to sleep i wake up 18 hours later and lost a pound or some times half a pound what gives =/

i sleep in the day cause i just cant fall asleep

Do you eat while you sleep? There’s your answer. If you’re sleeping for 18 hours, you’re not eating as much as you would if you slept only 7 or 8 hours (unless, of course, you gorge yourself when you wake up).

Well people have said this before that you can lose weight, though sleeping can’t make you lose weight, but if your sleeping over the max of 10 hours, then surely you must be.

When you don’t get enough sleep, it drives leptin levels down, which means you don’t feel as satisfied after you eat. Lack of sleep also causes ghrelin levels to rise, which means your appetite is stimulated, so you want more food.

When you sleep, your body is still using energy, but you are not taking any in. Also, what Aliya said is correct - the hormones leptin and ghrelin are influenced by sleep. Leptin is a hormone dervied from adipose tissue (fat) which signals to your brain when you have eaten enough, and lack of sleep causes a decrease in leptin. Ghrelin in a peptide hormone which not only alerts you to when you are hungry, it also prevents energy expenditure from fat stores, and when you are sleep deprived its levels increase. So basically, if you dont get enough sleep, hormones make you want to eat more, feel less satisfied in terms of hunger, and prevent you burning fat as fuel.
