What works better - skin glue or stitches?

Answer #1

Glue- you don’t have to get it ‘taken out’ like stitches. It’s also less infectious and safer. And less painful.

Answer #2

well ive had both, and my expierance with the glue wsnt very good. it just came out. and with the stiches.. well theyre just very paainful. but thank you for you’re opinion.

Answer #3

It is really your own personal or the doctor’s choice. Stitches would be better, as it will “secure” the incision better depending on how many knots and stitches are required. Most surgeons are now using stitches which dissolve so you do not have to go back in to have them removed which is great for people who are busy or want to save extra medical expenses.

Answer #4

In one of my classes we talked about it, and we concluded that glue was more attractive and it took less time.

Answer #5

I believe the glue is more often for smaller wounds and stitches for more serious.. I cut my head open once, and it was just big enough that they were on the fence about it and asked me what I wanted. Did I want a needle poking in and out of my head or some funny purple glue? I opted for the glue. It was only mildly unpleasant.

Answer #6

Well I know the glue is better for smaller injuries, this would not have worked when my femur bone came out of my leg. I had to get 110 staples during that event.

Answer #7

Yes I have had these and they still have to pull some of the stitch out, but it does not hurt at all, staples don’t hurt as well. I have never had the glue so I have nothing to compare it to, I guess when I break myself I do it right.

Answer #8

oh wow, and it worked fine ?

Answer #9

wow thats painful :/

Answer #10

LOL chris. and thanks samantha. thats true.

Answer #11

yes, but if u dont know what it is like on a person u dont know how it really works. so the attractiveness may only be that.

Answer #12

The super-glue (or as it is called in some circles, skin-glue) was used in Viet Nam as a way of closing up superficial-ish wounds. Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons also use it to repair ruptured ear drums. Which is better? It just depends on where the wound is located and it the wound is not really jagged. The pro’s are is that it does not leave stitch marks, the con’s are it burns very, very bad. Enough to bring tears to your eyes. As for dissolving sutures, not once have they ever dissolved for me.

Answer #13

Don’t remember, was in a coma for 2 weeks.
