How do dissolvable stitches work?

I had a little operation today and the doctor told me he put dissolvable stitches in that will well, dissolve. I should of asked but you don’t always think of the questions you want to ask at the time. I just wanted to know how long they sort of take to dissolve and how it works. Thank you.

I’m not sure about how the chemical process works,but as for when they dissolve, anything from 2 weeks to about a month (my dissolvable stiches for my appendix took about a month to dissolve, but those in my mouth much quicker.). Oh and it is safe, you don’t have to worry, they don’t dissolve that quickly as to leave the wound open or anything (that was my concern back then)
