Do you think it's wrong for cats to hunt, catch and eat birds, lizards and other wildlife?

I don’t see the problem with it. It’s in a cat’s nature to hunt. It’s natural just like it’s natural for humans to hunt and eat meat. However, if it were someone’s pet then I think the owner of the cat should make sure it doesn’t happen.

Hello.There is absolutely nothing wrong with a cat hunting.It is an instinct and it happens almost automatically.I don’t think this should be encouraged though as the birds,lizards,etc may be infected.

That is totally normal. Cats are a predatory species. If people get upset about a dead mouse, or about some feathets and blood on the carpet, then they should not get a cat.

@ Janice: The owner of a cat has no influence on whether a cat hunts or not. Even if the cat is so well-fed that it is almost obese, it will still hunt if it feels like hunting. And you can not command a cat. So the only thing you could do to keep a cat from hunting is to keep it inside the house. Which is not species-appropriate for the cat.

It’s in a cat’s nature to hunt for food… Suppressing this kind of behaviour can be bad for cats. Often after catching prey they will show their owners the kill, and many believe this is because they are seeking approval for a job well done. I try to stop my cat from finding other animals to eat, but if she catches one, I cannot take it from her because this is how things were meant to be.

Cats are natural-born predators … you can’t stop them from hunting any more than you can stop the sun from shining. I do, however, have a problem with people who allow their cats to roam around outside … cats dig up people’s gardens, spray on their property, get into garbage cans and make an awful mess. Not only is it inconsiderate to the neighbours, it’s unsafe for the cat who is being subjected to the possibility of being hit by a vehicle, attacked by another animal, or poisoned by the very neighbours that are being affected by this free-roaming cat.

I have 11 cats - all indoors. It takes a lot of daily cleaning, but if I can take care of 11 cats who never leave my house, I don’t see how it’s so difficult for other people to keep 1 cat at home.

Cats do not feel empathy for animals they kill so there is no right or wrong for the cat. The morality of cat owners letting their cats roam freely is different story. Domesticated cats are now the most common predator specie. Free roaming cats kill over 1 million birds/day in the United States and possibly as many as 1 billion birds/year. Cats also kill lizzards, frogs, snakes, mice, rats, squirrels, rabbits, etc. Domesticated cats can be viewed as an invasive specie and can wreak havoc on the balance of ecosystems. I don’t have any cats now (wife is too allergic to them) but in the past I limited their outdoor time and often supervised or played with them when they were outside.

This cat looks identical to my cat everything about it. My cat loves to hunt as well. I personally dont think it is wrong.
