Would you have refused making a cake for a child whose name was Hitler?

Cake request for 3-year-old Hitler namesake denied

EASTON, Pa. – The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child’s full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance. Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the Greenwich ShopRite, but with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article over the weekend on their flare-up over frosting. “There’s a new president and he says it’s time for a change; well, then it’s time for a change,” the 35-year-old continued. “They need to accept a name. A name’s a name. The kid isn’t going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did.” Deborah Campbell, 25, said she phoned in her order last week to the ShopRite. When she told the bakery department she wanted her son’s name spelled out, she was told to talk to a supervisor, who denied the request.

What would you have done - denied the cake, or just made it?

Answer #1

I would have made it … but couldn’t they have agreed on just putting the first and last name on the cake ? “ Adolf Campbell” wouldn’t have caused any problems if they could have settled inbetween their arguements.

Answer #2

yes on making the cake. wtf? who would name there child that?

Answer #3

Hitler is quite a cool name really, it stands out honestly if you think of it

Answer #4

honestly if I got that call I would think its a prank call and would have hung up. but that poor kid deserves to have a birthday cake with HIS name on it. so give it to hiM!

Answer #5

It’s a name, whatever… However, shame on the parents for naming their kid that in the first place. What exactly were they out to prove?

Answer #6

I would have made the cake…BUT, I also would have b!tch slapped the parents, if I had been the doctor or nurse who wrote down their requested name.

Answer #7

Hitler Smchitler… Better then the cake I did for little Osama Bin Laden from Steinway Street

Answer #8

I’m torn on this…I used to be a customer service manager in a grocery store and believe me, we turned down a lot of “odd” requests. I’m not sure why the parents wanted his whole name spelled out…most of the time they would only say “happy birthday Adolf”. So is there a reason for the whole name to be on the cake? It just seems odd to me. Being that it was a grocery store they have the right to turn it down, it doesn’t say anywhere that they need to do everything the customer wants.

Answer #9

I’d make the cake. But I’d never name my kid that.

Answer #10

I would have made it.. he’s a child, not hitler himself.. it’s horrible.

Answer #11

Answer #14

I would have. However whoever would name their child that must hate their kid. They will be picked on for the rest of their life!

Answer #15

Wow. That is a great question. Honestly, I don’t think I would have made the cake. I know that the right thing to do would be to make the cake, but the fact that anyone would even want to name their child that would have really disgusted me. I have been doing a-lot of research on the Holocaust lately, and what Hitler did also really disgusted me. He killed 6 million Jews, but 11 million people in total estimation. It seems to me that someone that would want to name their child that name would only do it for humor, or maybe for other people’s negative reactions and maybe even publicity. I may be wrong but that is what it seems like to me. So, I honestly wouldn’t make the cake, but I still don’t think that there should be any negativity towards the child because his name wasn’t his choice. None of it was his fault. I wonder what will happen when the child grows up and finds out the history of his name. But I am interested in your opinion. What would you do Amanda? Would you make the cake? Why do you think the parents named the child this name?
