How many women/girls have came out RH negative when was pregnant?

I came back RH negative and it scared me. Doctor said only 10% of women come out RH negative.

Answer #1

It is not something that happens suddenly. It only means your blood type is negative and doesn’t have these proteins at the surface of your blood cells. (exemple, O-, A-). It is not something bad, it is just a more rare blood type often associated with people fron Viking and Celtic ancestry. Doctors have to check blood type because if your baby is positive then a type of reaction can happen that can be dangerous for you but not for the baby. Knowing ahead what to expect, they will likely give you an injection of antibodies as a method of prevention and everything will be ok.

Answer #2

Actually if you look Rh negative it tells you that its fatal for the newborn. I did my research hun.

Answer #3

sorry, i am only a silly doctor, i should go back to med school ;)

Answer #4

I just read online where it said it can be fatal for the uterus(something like that) or the new born if our blood mixes. This is my first pregnancy and scared when I was told. I looked the stuff up online and that is what was told on the subject.

Answer #5

sorry that you are scared. the best thing is to bring it up with the doctor that follows you. they will explain that is no longer fatal and that is the reason they do the tests, to administer a kind of vaccine to women who are rh-, preventively. but in case you have some other medical conditions, do not only rely on internet as sole source of information.

Answer #6

Well my doctor wasnt going to explain it to me till my next visit which is like a month away. My next visit is in july. So all I really could do was look it up and get the best possible answer I could instead of worrying myself to death until then. I felt better reading that online, because it told me with getting the vaccine will help the situation. I already know I have to get the shot. My doctor told me that much, but didnt explain what Rh- was. So best thing for me to do was look it up to get answers to my questions.
