How to get wifi password ?

My room mate and I share the cost for our internet He set up the internet for me. I don’t know much about computer programmig, so I let him handle all of that.

He use a laptop, which has this security password to be able to access the internet.

He never told me the password, and when I ask he doesn’t seem like he wants to tell me, I’m not a conflict kinda guy, so I just want to find a back door to get the password. So that when my girlfriend comes over, she can use the internet on her blackberry.

Usually you have to enter the code in your pc to be able to use it. But I don’t know why, I saw him setting it up for me, but never did he enter any password only things about Ip address and DNS server.

It use to be with numbers but ever since we upgraded to wifi (our router) he delete all the numbers and put it in auto detect.

And I have internet, on my pc.

Is there anyway to find the password using my pc ? I mean the password should also be in my pc if I am able to use internet …. Right ?

If not what can I do (under the table) to be able to get the password ? I try calling my ICT provider, but they told me the fastest way was to ask my room mate since it was his password.

Answer #1

It all depends what you have. What kind of router or modem do you have? Lynksis-Cisco, 2Wire, Asus, D-Link, Belkin, TRENDnet, etc.? What I know is common is that sometimes they put the password on the router as a sticker, but seeing as you have been trying, it’s probably not there. Ask him again kindly and hope for the best. Maybe go to their support page and state your situation.

Probably, they can reset the password and you might be able to pick it. Then you can have a little payback, haha.

well for one i think he has a crush on your GF, so watch out for that…. anyway, there are 2 ways to set up a secure link, either by a password or by setting up the router so certain MAC addresses are allowed while others not…. now depending on how little you know about PC’s and routers i think he left you a proper loop hole (because he is probably sloppy) :3 on your internet browser type “192.168.1.1 “ now a table should come up requiring username and password, type in Admin as a username and admin as a password (lowercase) unless he changed these we can get access to the Wireless… now the layout depends on the router, if you have a model type we can get the manual online and that should show you how to change things around on the wireless…. anyway basically you need to find the wireless settings, then go to MAC filters and turn that off, now you should see “security” or WPA password or something, change the password to anything you want, NOW go to the settings or options tab, you should look for the settings to change the main login password so he does not go and change it again, now you control the wireless and he can stfu :P

Answer #4

i think he means the WPA password :)

Answer #5

Ahh you know more than I do. I’m not much into networking, only the basics. I’m more into hardware and even some software.
