Would shooting the water help?

I saw in a movie that a guy jumped off the bridge and shot the water with his gun to break the surface of the water… Would this help? Could you survive if you did this??

I saw something about that on myth busters, it does help to break the surface of the water before you fall into it cause if not it’s basically like hitting a brick wall.

Mythbusters was able to conclude that breaking the surface of the water before going in reduced the impact slightly, but not nearly enough to keep the fall from being lethal.
