Why won't my crush talk to me?

I have a crush on this guy and he knows I like him..and I asked him if he liked me and he said he still wants to get to know me but he does like me..so we started talking and we used to text a lot…I only have gym with him and he used to say hi and stuff..but since a couple of weeks he’s not talking to me..he doesn’t even say hi anymore…but he stares at me a lot!!..and I know he talks about me to his friends in gym…I don’t know what’s wrong?..he’s really shy so that might be holding him back..and I always have to start the conversation..help!!!..why won’t he say anything or talk to me?
