  1. It was abundant with natural resources which was needed during the industrial revolution.
  2. It had a high population so the British could tax and gain much income.
  3. It allowed Britain access to other parts of Asia which were currently isolating themselves from the Europeans

Its all about history.Once (before 19th century)india was the riches region on earth.It was riches country during 17th century.Also during 0-11 century A.D it was the richest region.When we take last 18 centuries ,it was china ans india which dominated the economics order of the world.They together contributed between 50 to 60 percent of world economy.

India provided Britain with Cotton and and Tea, by buying the raw materials that Britain could use to color and sell back to the people of India for a much higher price.
