Why does the definition of boyfriend or girlfriend vary?

Why is that someones version of a girlfriend or boyfriend interpretation different from person to person? I mean someone who goes on two dates with a boy could call that guy there boyfriend or a guy asks this girl out and she says yes and he starts calling her his girlfriend…its silly I think…why do people think this and if your one of this peoples explain to me why you do this?

I guess it depends on where you are, and the values of the people around you. If a guy asks a girl out, that one is clear cut - he’s asking her “will you be my girlfriend” so calling her his girlfriend afterwards is going to be acceptable. As for the two dates thing… well, how do you define a date, for starters?

um, our interpretation of the boyfriend/girlfriend definition changes because we are all different humans with different minds and different thoughts. personally I don’t think if I went out on 2 dates with someone he would automatically be my boyfriend.

Hmmm, in my day, there were definable stages.

dating

going steady

engagement

marriage

divorce
