Why is my friend lying to me?

My best friend. Today, I was at volleyball practice & she was telling me how her & her boyfriend broke up & how he kissed & held hands with another girl. So after she had told me that, it was like 5-10 minutes after that, out of the blue, she comes up to me and says: he fingered her too. & there was NO possible way I was going to believe her. Why would she make up a lie like that?

Maybe it’s not a lie, if she looks sad when she says it, most likely not.

But it could be just a gag, she might of had a real reason and was too ashamed to admit it.
