why is my boyfriend in jail acting distant to me and cold

so my boyfriend who was also my best friend for a really long time is now in jail and has been since mid may (it’s now august) he gets out in december and for a while everything was going really well considering he was in jail… we would talk everyday and everything was going great.. but now I’m leaving for college in a couple days and lately he’s been being a jerk to me.. like he’ll say things and then be like it’s a joke cant you take a joke and he’s talking about how he’s gonna go back and smoke a whole bunch of weed when he gets out againand he knows I dont want him to. before he wanted to completely change and go back to school and everything… I dont know what happened! but he’s being mean and I can tell he’s sad but why is he taking it out on me? is he just afraid to lose me or that we’re growing apart or something?

maybe its because hes in jail and he just having a hard time in their make him that you love him and you cant wait to see him out of jail
